Why the Competition Doesn’t Stand a Chance: Shopify vs. BigCommerce vs Volusion

ShopifyBigCommerceVolusion

It can often be very difficult to choose an eCommerce platform that fits your needs. Shopify Plus, Magento, BigCommerce, and Volusion are all leading platforms in the eCommerce world, but even these may be too many to choose from.

We compared Magento and Shopify Plus in a post a few weeks ago, so now it’s time to compare Shopify Plus with both BigCommerce and Volusion.

The infographic below compares some of the main reasons why our team here at Codal thinks it’s quite an obvious choice to go with Shopify.

You may have noticed that, according to the above chart, Shopify is easily the most stable, leading organization of all. If you go with Shopify, you can expect a stable, reliable, product, without paying a boatload for it.

Unlike BigCommerce and Volusion, Shopify does not penalize you for being successful and has only one flat rate for the platform. The higher the traffic and increase in revenue, the more money BigCommerce and Volusion will charge you.

How unfair is that?

SEO is very important when it comes to online purchases. Search engines can be the reason why a website succeeds or fails. So, the higher the SEO score, the more chance of your website being successful.

We are not done yet. The above points are not the only reasons we love Shopify. Here are some more…

Merchant Success Team

Put simply, the Shopify Plus team is fully committed to their clients and want to see them succeed. They offer an experienced team of launch managers, merchant success managers, technical designers, and a dedicated support team to assure that their transition to Shopify Plus is nothing but smooth.

The other 2 eCommerce platforms offer nothing remotely comparable to this.

Solid Long-Term Roadmap

Most of the things planned ahead for BigCommerce are releases of features that Shopify already has; and the data shows that Volusion isn’t keeping up with the constant demands and needs of business and consumers alike.

On the other hand, over the past few years Shopify has been dedicated and invested in building out a team around their new enterprise platform, Shopify Plus. They have acquired Boltmade to expedite further development of the product.

They are also investing a significant amount of time and capital into ensuring that the new product stays on top of market trends.

Built for Traffic Spikes

Shopify can handle anything that a website throws at them.

That is why large enterprise-level companies, like Tesla and Kylie Cosmetics are built on Shopify. The Kylie Cosmetics website manages to allow for over 200,000 users on the site at once, with all of the inventory sold out in just a few minutes.

Simple Content Management

Shopify makes it incredibly easy to create and manage all content on pages, whether using one of Shopify’s templates or a custom template made by an experienced designer. Any user, with or without a tech background, can edit and manage all content on pages. Unlike other platforms, you will not need a developer to change simple things in the backend.

Now What?

If your online store is currently running on BigCommerce or Volusion, you’re in the right place. Shopify is giving up to six months free for any retailer that wants to migrate to Shopify Plus.

This is an opportunity you don’t want to be missing; make the switch now, you won’t be sorry.

Since when has Shopify pricing been flat rate? Don’t they charge a percentage based on sales?

    • Gerard Pruitt

I looked into them a year ago and they do charge a percentage based on sales but I think its based on what you are selling. They arent really clear about when they charge a percentage based on sales though. I was trying to sell e-cigarettes.
