MWC 2016: The Focus of Wearables, Smartphones, and IoT

This month, Codal will be making it’s way back to Barcelona for the 3rd year in a row, to exhibit at Mobile World Congress. We’re looking forward to learning about new technologies, networking with like-minded organizations, and engaging with exhibitors.

Every year, MWC attracts the most experienced and influential attendees and exhibitors in the mobile industry. According to GSMA, over 94,000 attendees are expected to attend the conference this year. MWC will be held in a 98,000 square foot space for conferences, exhibits, speaker sessions, and business meetings.

If you are in the mobile industry, this is the place to be.

Last year was a record breaking year at MWC (this year, these numbers are expected to increase):

Thousands of companies will be exhibiting this year to display their cutting-edge technologies, many of which will be at unique pavilion spaces that will focus on more specific topics, such as: wearables, NFC, mobile money, IoT, and mobile cloud.


The past two years, Samsung has announced the latest additions to its Galaxy line of smartphones at MWC, and 2016 will be the year the Samsung Galaxy S7 is announced, according to predictions.

The LG G5, HTC One M10, and Microsoft Lumia 750 are also some of the devices that are predicted to be launched at the conference.


Frost & Sullivan stated, in a report released in September, that the number of connected devices would reach 22 billion by the end of 2019. That’s only 3 years away! IoT tech is contributing to the global economy, in all different industries: Health, Insurance, Manufacturing, Retail, and Finances.

New for 2016, is the addition of an Internet of Things pavilion that will showcase these new technologies.


At MWC 2015, there was quite a large presence of wearable technology, particularly in fitness bands and smartwatches. When it comes to smartwatches, they are still in their early days. Many people are hoping that many of the problems faced by smartwatches will be solved with new and innovative products that will be showcased in this year’s MWC.

All of the wearable technology will be showcased in the Wearable Pavilion in Congress Square.
